Psychiatric Consultation

A psychiatric consultation is a holistic evaluation of biological, psychological, medical and social causes of emotional or mental distress. It is primarily a conversation between you and your psychiatrist or a therapist to find out what might be wrong and to come up with a treatment plan accordingly. A psychiatric consultation gives you a new perspective and hope for the future. Psychiatrist, and other medical professionals at Ahana Hospitals, will assess your present and past medical or psychiatric conditions. Assessment report, as well as necessary medical records and laboratory tests, will lead to preparation of comprehensive yet personalized treatment plan.

A simple psychiatric consultation takes 2 to 3 sessions. A comprehensive psychiatric consultation takes at least 16 sessions. In order to make this short period, as productive as possible, please gather and organize all of your medical records and recollections of previous clinical interventions before your first consultation. Part of this process includes filling out a brief patient medical history form.

Neurological Consultation

A neurological consultation at Ahana Hospitals basically deals with functions or dysfunctions of your brain and nervous system. A neurological consultation will be recommended toidentify the status of your brain health.

Our neurologist will ask you to explain your problem. Because neurological evaluation relies much on your personal experience of your problem. If you have had diagnostic tests (like blood tests, X-rays, CT scans or MRI scans) or visits with other doctors about your problem, you should bring those medical records with you for your neurological consultation.

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT); involves simulating brain by passing impulses, with the aim of relieving severe mental health conditions.At Ahana Hospitals we use modified ECT given under anesthesia and muscle relaxants. Unlike showed in mass-media and horror movies, ECT is a safe procedure, when administered under medical supervision, and all you feel is a needle prick.

 Alcohol & Drug Detoxification

Alcohol and drug detoxification services provide counseling, support, education and its treatment for those who are addicted to alcohol, drugs and other substance abuse.At Ahana Hospitals alcohol and drug detoxification counselor work closely with psychiatrist, psychologist, nurse and other doctors to provide holistic care.

Alcohol & Drug Detoxification starts with screening and drug assessment, followed by individual counseling, psychotherapy and support to families. Length of Stay (LOS) varies with each individual, in-addition LOS depends on withdrawal severity, health status of affected individual and treatment plan. Our psychologist, counselors, self-help groups and recovery support groups at rehabilitation center will work closely with you to quicken the recovery process.

Psychosocial Intervention

Psychological intervention involves wide variety of services, supports and strategies that aim to change/modify behavior and support people with alcohol and other substance abuse. Our psychosocial intervention procedure is a non-medical intervention; including counseling, assessment, coordinated care, case management, group work and professional consultation.

We also provide wide range for specialist, targeted services such as relapse prevention, management of complex needs, brief and early intervention, etc. Our relapse prevention program is a collaboration of techniques that increases your ability to control cravings, urges and enhance coping skills to handle high-risk situations,where relapse is a possibility. Community outreach services will be initiated shortly.


Psychotherapy is the use of psychological treatment techniques, based on a methodical,personal interaction between you and your therapist, to help you to overcome problems in preferred ways. Psychotherapy is used for treating behavior/mental health problems by speakingwith psychiatrist, psychologist and other mental healthcare professionals. During the procedure, you learn about your biological, psychological and emotional health conditions such as moods, thoughts and feelings.

Our Psychiatrist and Psychologist help you learn new skills and coping techniques, thereby helping you to take control of your life and respond to challenging situations. There are many specific types of psychotherapy such as individual therapy, marital therapy, group therapy, family therapy, etc; each with its own approach and benefit. The type of psychotherapy that’s right for you depends on your need, assessment score/report and situation.

Child and Adolescent Behavior Therapy

Psychological Assessment

Psychological assessment is a diagnostic procedure refers to scientific methods, often used to understand your behavioral or mental or emotional condition.It is an attempt byof a skilled mental health professional, usually a psychologist, to use the skills and techniques of psychology to understand general and/or specific facts about a person, either to inform, how they function now, or to predict their conduct and functioning in the future. Our psychological assessments combines’ information or data collected from interviews, observation and other sources to help us explore effective ways of resolving your mental/emotional problems.

After initial consultation by our psychiatrist, you may be recommended for psychological assessment. Immediately after psychological assessment by our psychologist, your results are obtained and studied by our team. During your second consultation (on the same day or on the follow up day) our psychiatrist and/or psychologist will give you a feedback about the results and a personalized treatment plan will be communicated.

Psychological Counseling

Psychological Counseling pays particular attention to developmental, emotional, social, health-related and organizational concerns. Our counseling psychology encompasses a broad range of culturally-sensitive practices that help you to improve emotional well-being, to alleviate distress, to resolve crisis and to facilitate your ability to function better in life.

Marital and Couple Therapy

Marriage or couples counseling is offered to support people in relationship, who might be seeking improved understanding/intimacy or considering separation amicably. While we focus on changing the view of the relationship, modifying existing behavior, decreasing emotional avoidance, understanding and accepting each other’s differences, improving on communication, we encourage each partner to pay attention on self-awareness and self-improvement by promoting strength.

Our short-term counseling will be between 2 to 3 sessions, whereas our long-term couple’s therapy will be between 10 to 15 sessions. During counseling sessions, our psychologist and marriage counselors will help you to learn new self-managing skills and strategies, to overcome your emotional, personal and relationship issues.


Rehabilitation prepares people to resume normal life after an illness. Also to restore a good health, useful life, to be regarded in a positive way, reestablish self-esteem.  Our Rehabilitation center “M.S. Chellamuthu Trust & Research Foundation” in Southern Tamilnadu, reskill, reinstate and restore former capacity/rights in treated mentally ill or mental retarded patients. Our rehabilitation services focus on personal hygiene, confidence building, skill building, etc., and aims to help them live as independently as possible.

We recommend rehabilitation services to patients; finding difficulties in planning, organizing daily life activities, being exploited or abused by others, hearing voices that are distressing, behaving in a way that other people find difficult or threatening, substance abuse, etc.

Crisis Intervention

Crisis Intervention is an emergency and temporary psychological care procedure, aims at minimizing psychological trauma caused by an accident or a rape. It refers to the methods used to offer immediate, short-term help to individuals who experience an event that produces emotional, mental, physical, and behavioral distress or problems.Crisis intervention are usually carried out to interrupt the downward spiral of maladaptive behavior and return the individual to their usual level of pre-crisis functioning.

The priority of crisis intervention is to achieve stabilization as quick as possible.
